Donny Is Back With Mod Gods! - Wednesday, 20th of August 2008 |
From our friends at FastCar HQ:
"Doncaster gets ready to rumble as Fast Car unveils the modified car scene’s grand finale - the inaugural Mod Gods Awards.
After a two-year break, the UK’s biggest show for petrol-heads and tuning enthusiasts is back at Donny.
The Fast Car Mod Gods Awards rumbles into Doncaster Race Course on 27th and 28th September, and is set to be the hottest automotive experience of the year and the grand finale of the 08 season.
Stacked with heritage, The Donny Show began over 30-years ago, and grew into the UK’s biggest show for petrol-heads and tuning enthusiasts.
Two years ago the multi-million pound renovation of the Doncaster Racecourse forced Donny to move.
But with the facelift complete, Donny is back.
And this time, with the full weight of the UK’s biggest selling tuning magazine behind it, as Fast Car Magazine host their Mod Gods Awards to celebrate the achievements of the enthusiasts who’ve spent the year building groundbreaking and scene moulding modified cars.
Those that enter the Mod Gods @ Donny will battle it out for a share of the £25,000 cash prize pool, and the honour of being awarded some of the industry’s highest accolades.
With help from partners Monster and Cream, the Fast Car Mod Gods @ Donny will be a celebration remembered for years to come." http://www.fastcar.co.uk

Redline Magazine Out Now - Tuesday, 19th of August 2008 |
The latest edition of Redline is out now and it's a cracker!
Full disclosure on Phil Morrison's DriftWorks S15 with build up photos and the finished article taking centre stage plus the low down on ECU chipping, does it work, how much does it cost and what's the best bet for your motor.
And last but not least, Davy sticks it right up the arse of those "model photographers" that we've all come to know and hate at cruises and car shows. Yup, the middle aged blokes with the digital SLR cameras get both barrels in Dav's Rant of the month
A really decent issue from the Redline guys this month and a worthy addition to your collection. http://www.redlinemag.com

So How Busy Is Strathycruise? - Monday, 18th of August 2008 |
For a lot of people this website is the first thing they look at in the morning and the last thing they check before going to sleep. The message forum has always been a popular feature and there are over 500 new posts made every day and that’s just the people who have registered and decided to contribute. Over and above that are the amount of people who just read through the forums, and looking at the latest figures from Google (who do our stats) over the course of the last month we've had more than 1 million page views for the first time which is unbelievable! That works out to over 30,000 different pages, photos and forum threads being read every day - not bad for a "wee cruise" website Compared to other sites that makes us just as popular as FastCar.co.uk and we pull just under 10% of the amount of visits that S1Jobs gets!
Where the scene itself is said to be in decline, due to the hard work and extra effort put in by everyone involved with the site it just keeps growing - and long may it continue! With the plans we've got up our sleeves for the coming year, we hope to offer even more content to visitors than ever before including more videos and other interactive features.

Strathycruise DVD Annual 2008 - Friday, 15th of August 2008 |
Last year we'd hoped to put together a DVD with footage from shows, events and cruises but due to lack of time towards the end of the year it never happened, so this time arond we're starting early!
The plan is to include most of the good stuff from last year along with this year's footage and have over an hours worth of video on the disc. Having mastered everything since the start of 2008 in high definition, the quality is first class when put on to normal DVD discs so it will be well worth the wait!
If you're interested in getting a hold of the DVD then drop us a quick email and we'll reply back to everyone when it's ready. Drop us a line to : infoBADGER@strathycruise.com - due to spam bots you will need to remove the BADGER part of the email address

BTCC BMW On Display - Thursday, 14th of August 2008 |
If touring cars are your thing then you should have been along at Park's BMW dealership in Hamilton yesterday, as taking pride of place in their showroom was Mat Jackson's BMW Dealer Team UK car plus the man himself.
Visitors had the opportunity to pit their virtual driving skills against Mat on the racing simulator while also getting up close and personal with his car and the assorted BMW machinery available to buy from Park's including ever lustful M6.
With this weekend being the pinnacle event for Scottish BTCC fans, having one the stars on our doorstep was the icing on the cake and those who attended appreciated the time Mat gave to his fans. http://www.douglasparkbmw.co.uk

Free Norton AV 2009 Beta - Thursday, 14th of August 2008 |
Norton used to be quite a good AV package (we're talking a decade ago) but since they are now more known as being a bloatware package than an AV suite the guys at Symantec have tried to right the previous wrongs with their new 2009 offering.
You can pick up a free beta release by going to the following link - though we'd only recommend it for people who know their NTFS from their FAT32's! http://www.symantec.com/norton-beta/welcome.html

10% Off At ScotKart For Strathycruise Users - Thursday, 7th of August 2008 |
We've just had word through from the guys at Scot Kart telling us about their new Ironman Race series, and if you block book you can save 10% by mentioning Strathycruise!
"Our new Ironman Race is designed for real petrolheads who want a lot of continuous track time. Like Formula 1 and other motorsport it's a real test of endurance and stamina, plus racing skills.
The format is all equipment provided (race suits, helmets and gloves), full drivers briefing, 5 minute practice/qualifier for grid positions, then a non stop 30 minute race (about 60 laps). The new track side scoreboard informs drivers of the race progress, and drivers can enjoy Scotlands largest flyover at Cambuslang, with the latest 200cc Sodi race karts. ScotKart medals are presented at the end to the 3 winners.
We are offering this at an Introductory price of £40pp, based on 8 to 14 drivers , and it's available Mon-Fri daytime for start times between 12pm and 6.30pm. SPECIAL OFFER for Strathy Cruise members - pay for 10 drivers and the 11th goes FREE - worth £40!"
You can't say fairer than that - so who's up for organising a trip down to Cambuslang?! http://www.scotkart.co.uk

That's A Wrap! - Thursday, 7th of August 2008 |
Check the following link for images of what happens when you decide that your black car really needs to be white.
Some seriously clever vehicle wrapping is the result, which protects the paintwork and allows the owner to peel off the plastic covering in a few years when they want to sell the car on. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=135662

"New" Lotus Carlton maybe? - Thursday, 7th of August 2008 |
The guys at Autocar today relayed information that Vauxhall could well be inspired to bring back a car modelled as the next "Lotus Carlton" - which would be awesome! Back in 1990 when the original hit the roads it boast nearly 400bhp, twin turbos and a 0-60mph time of less than 5 seconds!
With manufacturers now pushing for more power again with the ST and VXR ranges who knows what will be unleashed on the public in the next couple of years! http://www.autocar.co.uk/News/NewsArticle/Vauxhall-Carlton/234351/
