Banzai Bollocks - Sunday, 1st of July 2007 |
The first show that Strathycruise attended this year with a stand was the Banzai themed day at Crail Raceway in Fife. As usual with Crail days the event was open to everyone but had a bias towards Japanese cars (meaning anyone could turn up and anyone could have a go on the 1/4 mile if they wished).
On the Strathy stand we had a good and varied selection of cars with forum regular Sam coming all the way across from Ireland on a ferry with his replica Citroen Xsara rally car. The day was a major success with cars on our stand winning prizes in the show and shine, and all was well with the world... until we picked up a copy of this months magazine to read a scathing report by Banzai's editor belittling all the non Jap cars at the event and saying how having them there ruined it for Jap car lovers.
Its all very well either ignoring them or saying "a lot of non Jap cars turned up" but ripping the hole out of them and their owners for supporting a Crail event is not on. I've got a fairly decent Jap car and felt embarrassed to read this drivel. It reminded me of the up their own arse attitude some owners clubs have (not pointing any fingers at EJ20 or SR20DET/C18DET owners here) towards the car world that is so evident on forums across the land. I would have thought the editor of a national car mag would have had a few more braincells than to go radio rental in print and I really hope he doesn't get his melt panned in next time he's in Scotland from owners of the cars he wanted "impounded". http://www.strathycruise.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=81059

Super Street USA Mag - Sunday, 1st of July 2007 |
After reading the bollocks in Banzai it was a welcome break to find the latest edition of Super Street sitting on the shelf in Borders bookstore. This American title is like a cross between JTuner (RIP), Redline and FastCar - it doesn't take itself too seriously, has a fun and punchy feel to it and has the occasional splattering of silicone enhanced stateside beauties to go along with the serious metal. If you've got a hard on for JDM and want to see how the yanks are doing then nip down to your local Borders and pick up a copy. It's a breath of fresh air and some of the things you'll see will get your mind spinning with ideas for your own car.

How Loudspeakers Are Made - Sunday, 1st of July 2007 |
I spotted Andy posting this up on the forum and thought it was too good a video to let people miss out on. It's basically a Discovery Channel short vid on how a loudspeaker is built and tested, without any boring filler. Definitely 8 minutes of your live you will be happy to give up in the quest for knowledge! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VN0tmyyC0ak

Canada Crush Modified Cars! - Friday, 22nd of June 2007 |
Although their not as gun crazy as their southern cousins in America, Canada has pretty much the same laws on firearms which makes the latest news from across the ocean so dumbfounding. Annoyed with the increase in accidents and fatalities on their roads the police forces in Canada have now adopted a new stance that if they find a car that has been modified "for street racing" (who knows what that means) they have the right to crush it, along with any performance parts they find. You don't have to have had the car on the road - just the act of modifying it seems to be enough. To quote : " likened a 'juiced-up' car for street racing to 'an explosive' and claimed '...we don't need to wait until that car hits the road fully loaded.'" Vehicle Video Recorder - Friday, 22nd of June 2007 |
Being touted as a way of helping you out of any legal wrongdoings in America, this dashtop video camera can be used to record the scene of an accident to prove weather conditions, layout of the accident scene and other things. Maybe they don't have camera phones over there with built in video recording yet! http://www.gadgetuniverse.com/product_detail.asp?SKU=TC+246&MENU=AUTO
